Speech-Language Pathologist (FMLA)
About The Position
This is a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) position covering an FMLA leave for high school students (grades 9-12). The role involves managing a caseload of approximately 45 students, providing direct speech-language therapy services aligned with student IEPs, and supporting students in developing functional communication and life skills. The position focuses on working with students with low-incidence disabilities and complex communication needs, implementing and supporting Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, and collaborating with various educational professionals and families. The role also requires participation in IEP meetings, maintaining accurate documentation, and utilizing evidence-based behavioral strategies.
Requirements
- Active Illinois IDFPR Speech-Language Pathologist License required
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) through ISBE required
Nice To Haves
- Previous school-based experience preferred
- Experience with AAC and students with significant disabilities strongly preferred
- Experience working with students who have significant communication needs
- Comfortable supporting students with low-incidence disabilities
- Comfortable implementing and programming AAC devices and communication systems
- Comfortable collaborating within multidisciplinary teams
- Comfortable providing functional communication services that promote independence and transition readiness
- Comfortable incorporating behavioral supports into therapy sessions as needed
Responsibilities
- Manage a blended caseload of approximately 45 students
- Provide direct speech-language therapy services in accordance with student IEPs
- Support students in developing functional communication and life skills
- Work with students with low-incidence disabilities and complex communication needs
- Implement and support Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, families, and multidisciplinary team members
- Participate in IEP meetings and maintain accurate documentation
- Utilize evidence-based behavioral strategies to support student engagement and communication
