About The Position

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) in Autism Services plays a crucial role in evaluating and treating expressive and receptive language abilities, cognitive skills, and oral motor functioning. This position primarily serves clients of an Autism Learning Center and those on a waiting list, but may also see additional clients. The SLP will develop treatment plans and use therapeutic modalities to enhance client skills, collaborating with Board Certified Behavior Analysts and ABA Therapists. Consultation with other professionals and families regarding evaluations, treatment, and progress is also a key component, with suggestions for programming in various settings.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech and Language.
  • Licensed in the State of Indiana and/or the State of Michigan, based on location of clinical services/site.
  • Experience and training in working with individuals on the autism spectrum.
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavioral Analysis.
  • Ability to work with professionals in other fields (Applied Behavior Analysis, Occupational Therapy, clinical services, etc.).
  • Current Speech-Language Pathologist license in the state/location of service.
  • Ability to communicate with other appropriate staff, supervisor, and agency personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and families.
  • Ability to provide developmental outcomes for each client and demonstrate activities and strategies to their families and/or caregivers.
  • Ability to drive to different community sites where services are provided, if needed.
  • Ability to sit & use computer keyboard.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, & reach throughout a session.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds throughout a session.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Applied Behavioral Analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations to determine the need for therapeutic services.
  • Communicate assessment results as directed.
  • Determine each client's needs in consultation with the client's family and other professionals, including LOGAN staff and external service providers.
  • Develop and implement interventions, such as home programs and communication systems, to enhance client outcomes.
  • Conduct treatment to maintain or enhance speech, language, and related abilities within the scope of training and expertise.
  • Facilitate parent growth as teachers by providing necessary resources and support.
  • Work directly and collaboratively with Autism Learning Center staff (BCBAs, ABA Therapists) to develop, implement, and measure therapeutic goals.
  • Deal effectively with other staff, agencies, and community programs, as well as clients and their parents/guardians.
  • Keep daily progress notes, make reports on progress, and maintain accurate and up-to-date files.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with the finance department on billing issues.
  • Use and learn Electronic Medical Records systems for SOAP Note creation and billing.
  • Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and parent group meetings when requested.
  • Serve as a resource person for Autism Learning Center Staff and parents for information related to clinical expertise.
  • Responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of persons served at all times.
  • Provide incident reporting as needed within 24 hours of incident.
  • Serve as a role model for persons served.
  • Serve as an advocate and protect the human rights of persons served at all times.
  • Participate in required training.
  • Plan instructional activities/home programs for parents and caregivers.
  • Furnish all required monthly reports on a timely basis.
  • Respect the confidentiality and cultural diversity of the client and their family.
  • May be asked to serve on a LOGAN committee.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by supervisor.
