About The Position

This position is for an inpatient rehabilitation setting at the University of Rochester. The Speech/Language Pathologist will provide services to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in children and/or adult populations. The role involves working collaboratively with other professionals, conducting clinical teaching, and potentially assisting with research activities. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and 1 year of clinical experience in Speech-Language Pathology in a health care setting required Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong team-based relationships required
  • Flexibility and problem-solving skills required
  • Eligibility for Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology upon hire required
  • New York State license in Speech-Language Pathology upon hire required
  • Minimum of 1 day per month.
  • Holiday and weekend coverage required.
  • Must have CCCs and have or be eligible for full (not provisional) NYS SLP licensure.

  • Candidates with experience with acquired brain injury (CVA, TBI) and/or spinal cord injury are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Clinical fellows will not be able to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and interprets speech and language evaluations for patients with communicative disorders and those requiring more specialized care, such as patients with dysphagia, laryngectomy and aphasia.
  • Plans and provides speech and language therapy and intervention based on evaluation results.
  • Develops and initiates treatment programs for more complex patients, including Plans of Care.
  • Provides counseling, education, and guidance to patients and their families regarding disorder(s).
  • Adapts existing resources to meet patient and caregiver needs.
  • Maintains comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR) for each patient.
  • Communicates through written reports, flowsheet documentation, and other EMR specific tools.
  • Recommends changes in standard departmental practices.
  • Works collaboratively with professionals from other disciplines.
  • Conducts clinical teaching with medical students and undergraduate/graduate students from various colleges/universities.
  • Provides education and in-services to hospital faculty and staff regarding speech and language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • May identify potential research projects and assist with the design and implementation of clinical research and data collection activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
