About The Position

Devereux New York is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join their multi-disciplinary team. This role involves working with children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. The SLP will be responsible for evaluating, remediating, and consulting on speech, language, voice, and hearing issues that affect communication. The position offers a supportive teaching environment with a strengths-based approach, emphasizing applied behavior analysis and positive behavior supports. The role provides greater autonomy and flexibility with teaching plans, fewer state and federal mandates, paid orientation, and over 5 weeks of paid time off in the first year. Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Speech Pathology or Therapy
  • NYS Certification in Speech and Language
  • Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants or other chemical or controlled substances.
  • Significant, prolonged, and frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, and lifting of 25 lbs or more.
  • Using standard crisis intervention procedures, must be able to singlehandedly effect the initial restraint of children and adolescents weighing between 75 and 150 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience remediating speech and/or language difficulties in a school, hospital, treatment facility, etc., is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating students upon intake and preparing diagnostic reports.
  • Conducting individual and/or group therapy programs.
  • Preparing reports to evaluate the progress of each student seen in therapy.
  • Liaising and consulting with staff to coordinate program planning.
  • Determining the need for therapy.
  • Implementing recommendations of clinical staff in regard to behavioral/emotional difficulties.
