About The Position

Alpha Public Schools is a network of four public charter schools committed to providing access to an outstanding education. We are seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to join our Special Education team. This role is crucial in preparing students in TK-12th grade for success in college and career by assisting staff in integrating linguistic skills and helping students become skillful communicators. The ideal candidate will be committed to amplifying and celebrating the diverse experiences and cultures of our scholars and their families, providing access to instruction for all students by responding to socio-emotional needs, supporting literacy development, using culturally responsive instructional strategies, and accommodating individual learning differences.

Requirements

  • A Masters Degree
  • A valid California Speech Language Pathology Services Credential or Clinical Rehabilitation Credential or a California Speech Language Pathology License.
  • A commitment to working with students in traditionally underserved communities. Approximately 80% of Alpha’s students are from under-resourced communities and will be the first in their families to go to college. The majority of our students are Latinx and/or Vietnamese.

Responsibilities

  • Support with the implementation of direct speech and language services to identified students with disabilities who meet the eligibility criteria established by federal and state law
  • Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations and analyze standardized and qualitative data to determine student eligibility for services in accordance with state and federal criteria
  • Manage the selection, implementation, and collaborative support of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems to ensure students have functional communication access across all environments.
  • Create lesson plans and materials to support students with speech and language needs in classrooms and in direct speech and language therapy.
  • Consult with general education teachers to ensure consistent implementation of IEPs and speech and language goals across all school environments
  • Provide professional development sessions to school site teams that will support staff with learning more about speech and language services
  • Provide legally defensible implementation of services, supports, accommodations, and modifications as provided by students’ IEPs
  • Collect data on and monitor individual student performance, adjusting instruction and supports as necessary to ensure progress toward IEP goals
  • Monitor timelines, interact with parents and other staff, and complete all paperwork, forms and reports.
