About The Position

Mary Free Bed at Munson Grayling is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to primarily serve a pediatric outpatient caseload, with potential to support adult populations, Grayling Inpatient Hospital, and Skill Nursing facilities. This is a full-time position with a 32-hour work week, Monday through Friday. The role involves evaluating patient needs for speech therapy, planning and executing individualized treatment programs in accordance with ASHA and SLP scope of practice, and maintaining updated skills through continuing education and research. The position requires adherence to organizational strategic objectives and goals, and performance of job responsibilities in alignment with Mary Free Bed's Pillars of Excellence (Quality, Service, People, Growth, Financial). This includes providing patient care, evaluating conditions, establishing and administering treatment goals in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, delegating to Speech Assistants, re-evaluating patient status, and ordering/evaluating necessary medical equipment. The role also involves participating in discharge planning, demonstrating competence in relevant software and hardware, documenting patient progress, communicating with interdisciplinary team members, and educating patients and families. Additionally, the Speech Language Pathologist will attend meetings and in-services, follow hospital policies (including confidentiality and infection control), meet productivity expectations, provide discipline-specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system, and adhere to Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior. Support for program operations, orientation and training of new staff, and serving as a clinical instructor for students and supervising CFY are also key aspects of the role. The position also contributes to program development, research activities, and meeting clinical outcome standards and performance goals. Requirements

  • M.S. or M.A. in Speech Pathology granted by an accredited university program.
  • Licensure is required in every US State and Territory the Therapist is practicing or is in Clinical Fellowship Year.
  • Licensure requirements should be met according to individual State laws.
  • In addition, SLP-CCC is required for therapists in the following States per Medicaid billing requirement: DC, NC, WV, KY, MN, NE, KS, NM, NV, ID
  • Possesses and maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes full responsibility for evaluating patient’s need for speech therapy.
  • Plans and executes individual treatment programs in accordance with ASHA and SLP scope of practice.
  • Keeps treatment skills upgraded through continuing education, evidence-based research, and program development.
  • Perform job responsibilities in accordance with the program’s strategic objectives and goals to carry out organizational strategic objectives.
  • Provides patient care.
  • Evaluates patient condition.
  • Establishes treatment goals in collaboration with patient and family as appropriate, and in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Establishes written treatment plan, and administers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals.
  • Delegates responsibilities to Speech Assistants as appropriate.
  • Re-evaluates patient’s status and effects of treatment.
  • Revises treatment plan as necessary.
  • Reviews revised goals with patient and family as appropriate.
  • Evaluates patient’s need for medical equipment and orders the appropriate equipment as necessary.
  • Evaluates equipment upon delivery and instructs patient, patient’s family, and health care workers on its use.
  • Participates in planning for patient discharge by considering and communicating with patient, family, community support/services, and environmental limitations.
  • Demonstrates competence in relevant software and hardware required to meet job responsibilities.
  • Documents patient’s status and progress through initial evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary according to established internal/external time standards and adherence to reimbursement guidelines.
  • Communicates with others to integrate speech language pathology services with all aspects of patient care.
  • Participates in conferences/discussions as needed and exchange of written records with other interdisciplinary team members to integrate speech language pathology treatment plan.
  • Instructs the patient and the family in speech language pathology procedures as part of providing patient and family education including written instructions as necessary.
  • Attends various meetings and in-services as designated.
  • Follows all hospital policy and procedures including but not limited to patient confidentiality and infection control.
  • Meets or exceeds program productivity expectations.
  • Provides discipline specific coverage (following cross training) within the Mary Free Bed system as requested.
  • Adheres to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers and members of the community.
  • Supports program operations as assigned.
  • May perform the following items to meet program or hospital needs.
  • Participates in orientation and training of new staff.
  • Serves as clinical instructor for speech language pathology students and supervises CFY as needed.
  • Supervises, teaches and evaluates skills of students.
  • Communicates with participating universities regarding skill level of students.
  • Participates in program development and/or research activities.
  • Meet or exceed clinical outcome collection standards established by department leadership.
  • Meet or exceed clinical outcome performance/improvement goals established by department leadership in designated programs.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors as well as encourages, coaches, and monitors the same in team members.
  • This individual should consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co-workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information.
  • Contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions.
  • Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
