About The Position

The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for evaluating and treating residents, communicating with residents and team members, and maintaining documentation of services. This role also involves conducting in-services and training for residents and team members on restorative techniques, in keeping with the organization's goals.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university.
  • Maintain an active license in the State as an Speech-Language Pathologist consistent with job duties.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, and ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to engage in active listening (giving full attention to those speaking), critical thinking (using logic and reasoning to identify strengths/weaknesses of alternative solutions), and active learning (understanding implications of new information during problem-solving situations).

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech therapy and direct patient care as directed.
  • Supervise Speech Therapy Assistants or others to carry out the plan of care and resident-related activities pursuant to state practice act, reimbursement regulations, and all applicable law, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain productivity standards as determined by supervisor and clinical needs.
  • Evaluate residents based upon physician referral/orders.
  • Develop effective treatment plans with functional, goal-based outcomes and ensure approval/orders for services from referring physician.
  • Treat patients according to the treatment plan, care of plan, and as directed by supervisor.
  • Record clinical documentation according to accepted regulatory and professional guidelines and facility policies and procedures.
  • Record daily treatment charges per approved billing guidelines.
  • Instruct residents, families, and nursing staff regarding restorative/home programs.
  • Participate in discharge planning.
  • Communicate with supervisor and other team members regarding patient progress, opportunities for improvement, and overall care plan.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, patient care conferences, utilization review meetings, and other meetings as directed.
  • Participate in in-service training programs as directed.
  • Participate in facility performance improvement programs as directed.
  • Coordinate with members of other departments, attending physicians, team members, and other staff at the facility.
  • Screen patients based upon identified need.
  • Secure necessary adaptive equipment for residents.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of the treatment area and department.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and team-building approach with all residents and team members.
  • Report all resident, staff, or other concerns to the appropriate department head.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, unsafe situations, and concerns immediately.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations relating to responsibilities.
  • Ensure that responsibilities are performed consistent with all applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations as well as facility policies and procedures.
  • Report any problems with department equipment to appropriate personnel so that it is maintained in good working order.
