About The Position

Avenues is seeking a Part-Time Speech-Language Pathologist (3 days per week) to join our Student Success Team (SST). In this unique role, the Speech-Language Pathologist partners with teachers, families, and SST colleagues to support students’ communication development through observation, screening, classroom-based strategies, and early intervention within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. This position focuses primarily on consultation, screening, and classroom-based support rather than maintaining a traditional therapy caseload. The Speech-Language Pathologist plays an important role in helping teachers create communication-supportive classrooms and in identifying students who may benefit from additional support.

Requirements

  • Wide range of knowledge with more than 5 years of experience with preschool and school-aged children.
  • Understanding of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) to address speech and language needs, including articulation, voice, fluency and receptive/expressive language in the classroom.
  • Commitment to supporting students’ wellbeing and inclusive learning environments.
  • Highly effective collaborator, eager to listen deeply, contribute to a team and achieve goals together.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Very resourceful and adaptive, eager to embrace constant change, growth and learning.
  • Current NYS licensure and ASHA certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom observations and informal screenings to better understand students’ communication skills.
  • Share findings and practical recommendations with teachers and caregivers.
  • Identify classroom and home strategies that support communication development and monitor student progress.
  • Participate in regular student-focused meetings to discuss student needs and plan supports.
  • Work in partnership with other members of the Student Success Team, classroom teachers, and divisional leadership to ensure that each student's academic skills are progressing.
  • When needed, offer referrals for targeted services as well as liaise with outside providers.
  • Collaborate with teachers and members of SST to provide TIER 1 interventions within the classroom.
