About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation in Lakeway, TX is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for a PRN position. This role will train to cover both their inpatient rehabilitation unit and their Day Neuro program. The candidate will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to treat medically complex patients with conditions such as stroke, brain injury, SCI, cancer, and other acquired or progressive neurological diagnoses. These patients may present with co-morbidities including aphasia, cognitive-communication deficits, motor speech disorders, and dysphagia. The ideal candidate will be patient-centered with strong swallowing and neurological rehab skills, and work well in a team setting. Recent graduates with previous experience in a rehab setting are welcome. No CFY opportunities are available at this time. There are shift minimum requirements: 2 weekend days per month, totaling a minimum of 24 shifts per year. Preferred experience includes e-stim, FEES/MBSS, and evidence-based intervention methods. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
  • CCC-SLP certification from ASHA required
  • TX-SLP certification from the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology required
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
  • Dysphagia experience required

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of outpatient experience with adult neuro preferred
  • LSVT/SPEAK OUT certification preferred
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with AAC preferred
  • NMES for swallowing (AmpCare preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates all assigned patients and develops, implements and modifies treatment plan in accordance with the patient’s need and physician direction.
  • Responsible for delegation and direction of all discipline-specific therapy services for those assigned patients.
  • Ensures the design of functional and patient-centered treatment programs allowing for an effective return to community and prior level of function.
  • Serves as an educator of patients, families, students, co-workers and self.
  • Performs other professional duties associated with the care of the patient, development of discipline-specific therapy services and design of program delivery.
  • Evaluate the patient's level of functioning and develop an individualized treatment plan aligned with patient and family goals.
  • Participate in discharge planning including placement, patient and family education, and adaptive equipment.
  • Work closely with an interdisciplinary team model.
  • Perform standardized assessments for disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice and fluency disorders to create an individualized and patient-centered plan of care.
  • Perform clinical swallow evaluations and interpret Modified Barium Swallow evaluations in order to safely determine a diet and individualized plan of care.
  • Plan and deliver effective patient and family training to address safety concerns and facilitate carryover into the home and community.
  • Participate in monthly speech trainings and CEU’s related to speech pathology.
  • Market and promote speech services to the community in order to grow the speech program in Central Texas.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and customer service skills.
