About The Position

Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school where students learn core academic content through language immersion. Language offerings vary by campus: our North - Thornton campus offers Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian, while our Aurora and Douglas County campuses offer Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and French. GVA is truly a "global village." Our immersion teachers come from all over the world, each bringing their unique culture and language into the classroom. The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive speech-language services to students with communication disorders that impact educational performance. The SLP evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, voice, fluency, hearing, and oral motor disorders while collaborating with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and school regulations regarding special education services and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Requirements

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA).
Current Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Services Provider License with Speech-Language Pathologist endorsement (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
Current Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Speech-Language Pathologist license (or eligibility if required).
Successful completion of the PRAXIS Speech-Language Pathology examination or current ASHA certification.
Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates are encouraged to apply if eligible for licensure.
Supervised clinical practicum or internship working with children from birth through age 21.
Knowledge of speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing, hearing, and oral motor disorders.
Knowledge of child development and communication milestones.
Understanding of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and special education procedures.
Ability to administer, score, and interpret standardized and informal speech-language assessments.
Ability to develop and implement evidence-based therapy programs.
Strong consultation and collaboration skills with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational, documentation, and time management abilities.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities while managing a diverse caseload.
Proficiency with technology, electronic documentation systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Ability to move throughout the school building and between classrooms.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and reach during therapy sessions.
Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and therapy equipment up to 25 pounds.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
Previous experience in a school-based setting is preferred.
Experience working with students with diverse learning, developmental, and communication needs is preferred.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive speech-language evaluations using formal and informal assessment tools.
Screen students to identify speech, language, voice, fluency, hearing, and oral motor concerns.
Interpret assessment results and prepare written evaluation reports.
Determine student eligibility for speech-language services in accordance with IDEA and state guidelines.
Reassess students as required to determine continued eligibility and educational needs.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized therapy plans that address each student's communication needs.
Provide direct and indirect speech-language therapy individually and in small groups.
Address receptive and expressive language, articulation, phonology, fluency, voice, pragmatics, auditory processing, and oral motor skills as appropriate.
Adapt instructional strategies and therapeutic interventions to meet the unique needs of each student.
Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on data and outcomes.
Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary evaluation and IEP teams.
Develop measurable speech-language goals and objectives aligned with students' educational needs.
Maintain ongoing communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and related service providers regarding student progress and recommendations.
Consult with classroom teachers to support communication goals within the educational environment.
Provide recommendations for classroom accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology when appropriate.
Maintain accurate and timely records, including evaluations, progress reports, therapy notes, and service logs.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing special education and related services.
Complete required documentation within established timelines.
Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws.
Maintain therapy materials, assessment tools, and equipment in good working condition.
Follow all safety, infection control, and risk management procedures.
Stay current on evidence-based practices through professional development and continuing education.
Participate in staff meetings, professional learning communities, and school events as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or school administration.
