The Speech Language Pathologist position is a professional position encompassing assessment of patient's speech, language, and swallowing function, psychological, emotional, educational and spiritual needs. The SLP will be responsible for speech, language and swallowing therapy evaluation and treatment in accordance with physician referral. Other responsibilities include instructing and educating speech students, the community and supervising rehab aides. The SLP will be highly motivated to continue development of clinical skills and remain current with research in the field. The SLP will effectively provide person centered care and services.

Requirements

  • Education: Successful completion of accredited speech language pathology program including Master's degree, certificate of clinical competence (ASHA)
  • Licensure: New York State Licensure
  • Experience: Preferred, not required. New graduates welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing speech, language and swallowing assessment according to ASHA standards of practice as well as New York state standards.
  • Develop Plan of Care for each patient based on initial and ongoing assessments including short and long term goals, frequency and duration.
  • Implement Plan of Treatment, evaluate the effects of treatment and adjust according to patient progress. Consult providers and communicate concerns, questions or findings as necessary to deliver patient centered care.
  • Administer treatment in an environment focused on safety, ethics and skillful delivery of treatment strategies, modalities, exercises and functional rehabilitation techniques.
  • Document patient progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures, including content and timeliness.
  • Evaluate and document objective findings including current level of function, testing results, including swallow studies, etc...
  • Educate patient, caregivers and loved ones regarding assessment findings, exercise program, safety measures and any other area necessary to facilitate a successful discharge from skilled therapy.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through attending clinical educational workshops and in-services; reviewing professional publications, etc.
  • Supervise rehab aides according to state guidelines.
