About The Position

Haverhill Public Schools is seeking a Speech & Language Pathologist (SLP) for the Elementary Level. This position is responsible for providing clinical supervision to speech-language assistants, evaluating students with suspected communication disabilities, and providing speech-language services to students with Individual Education Programs. The SLP will serve as a resource to school staff to promote students’ receptive and expressive language skills, provide individualized education programs using evidence-based multi-sensory approaches, and consult with teachers about students with communication disabilities. Responsibilities include maintaining thorough and ongoing records, organizing the speech program, planning therapy schedules, providing evaluations for Team Evaluations, notifying parents of findings and progress, attending TEAM meetings, and completing individualized education plans. The SLP will also be responsible for other instructional and general duties as assigned by school administration.

Requirements

Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – Speech Language and Hearing Disorders - Required
Licensed by the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure – Speech Language Pathologist – Required
Possession of a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Three (3) years experience as an SLP
Such alternatives as determined by the Superintendent of Schools.

Responsibilities

Providing clinical supervision to speech-language assistants.
Evaluating students with suspected communication disabilities.
Providing speech-language services to students with Individual Education Programs.
Serving as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program to promote students’ receptive and expressive language skills for school success.
Providing an individualized education program to meet individual needs of speech-language disabled students using evidence based multi-sensory approaches.
Using evidence based practices to consult with teachers about students who demonstrate communication disabilities.
Keeping thorough and on-going records, using qualitative and quantitative data, for individual students receiving speech-language services.
Organizing speech program in assigned schools.
Planning the therapy schedule including pupils in groups or individual, depending upon their classification and severity.
Providing evaluations for Team Evaluations.
Notifying parents of findings and progress via semi-annual reports.
Attending TEAM meetings when requested.
Keeping accurate individual records.
Completing individualized education plans when requested.
Responsible for other instructional and general duties as indicated by the Principal, the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent of Schools, or his/her designees and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
