The Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) student externship at our nonpublic special education day school offers hands-on experience with students aged 5–21 who present with complex communication needs. Externs will gain valuable exposure to a wide range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, including both high- and light-tech devices. They will also have the opportunity to work with gestalt language processors and implement supportive strategies tailored to their unique communication styles. Service delivery will include individual and group therapy inside and outside of the classroom, and collaborative consultation with multidisciplinary teams. This externship provides a rich, immersive learning experience in a highly supportive, specialized educational environment.
