About The Position

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant supports licensed Speech Language Pathologists in delivering speech and language services to students with communication disorders. Under the direct supervision of a licensed SLP, the SLPA implements treatment plans, documents student progress, and assists with program preparation to help students improve speech, language, social communication, and functional communication skills.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Studies, or a related field.
  • Completion of an approved SLPA training program is preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification may be required.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or therapeutic setting is highly desirable.
  • Experience in providing direct support in speech and language therapy or related services is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping and documentation.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based therapy techniques and a willingness to learn and implement new strategies under supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language therapy services to students as outlined in individualized education programs IEPs or treatment plans developed by the supervising SLP
  • Implement therapy activities focused on articulation language fluency voice pragmatics and augmentative communication as appropriate
  • Collect and document accurate data on student performance and progress toward goals
  • Assist with preparation of instructional materials therapy activities and assistive communication devices
  • Support screenings and informal assessments under the direction of the supervising SLP
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all FERPA HIPAA and district or organizational policies
  • Collaborate with teachers paraprofessionals and related service providers to support student goals
  • Participate in team meetings supervision sessions and required trainings
  • Follow all state practice acts and supervision requirements governing SLPA services
