About The Position

The Speech Language Graduate Intern is accepted into the iHOPE Graduate Student Program based on a successful interview and completion of their first year of graduate school in speech language pathology/communication disorders. The Speech Language Graduate Intern will be under the direct supervision of a staff SLP and the Director of the Department for the entirety of their internship. The Graduate Student Intern will be responsible for providing speech and language services 3 days a week under direct supervision at all times. The Graduate Student Intern will be responsible for adhering to HIPPA and the policies and procedures of iHOPE. They will also be responsible for all paperwork associated with iHOPE’s Graduate Program and completion of a final project. Internships are typically from 14-16 weeks in duration.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an affiliated college and university.
  • Successful completion of undergraduate degree in communication disorders/sciences or a related field.
  • Successful completion of one year of graduate studies in speech-language pathology/communication disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing and organizations skills.
  • Successful completion of an interview with Director of Department and staff SLP who will be supervising graduate intern.

Responsibilities

  • Provides intensive speech and language therapy and feeding therapy services following students’ IEP and under the direct supervision of Graduate Clinical Coordinator and other qualified staff SLPs.
  • Assesses and develops therapeutic plans that will address the communication, AAC, oral motor, and feeding needs of the students based on their individual strengths and challenges under the direct supervision of Graduate Clinical Coordinator and other qualified staff SLPs.
  • Documents progress on daily session notes, quarterly progress notes, and yearly evaluations and updating of IEPs under the direct supervision of a Graduate Clinical Coordinator and other qualified staff SLPs.
  • Communicates and collaborates with parents and medical professionals as needed, specifically as they impact upon the student’s educational plan under the direct supervision Graduate Clinical Coordinator and other qualified staff SLPs.
  • Collaborates with the teachers and other related service providers within the school setting to ensure that a comprehensive educational plan is in place to meet the child’s individual needs under the direct supervision of Graduate Clinical Coordinator and other qualified staff SLPs.
  • Completion of a final project at the end of their internship.
