About The Position

This is an anticipated long-term substitute position for a Speech and Language Teacher at Bethel Park Elementary School. The role involves evaluating and diagnosing student speech and language problems, providing therapy services, developing classroom activities to enhance student capabilities, monitoring progress, maintaining records, and serving as a resource for staff and families. The teacher will also participate in IEP meetings and parent consultations, and stay updated on new developments in speech and language therapy.

Requirements

• PA Special Education - Speech and Language Impaired PK-12 Certification required
• Master's degree in relevant area of study

• Praxis Scores (all areas of certification)
• 3 letters of reference dated within the past year

Nice To Haves

• Successful speech and language teaching experience in a K-12 setting preferred.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Knowledge of speech/language principles, theories, testing, assessment tools, etc. as well as proven intervention methods for students with speech and language problems.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
• Most current Act 34, Act 151, Act 114, and Act 126 clearances if available.

Responsibilities

• Conducts appropriate testing and assessments to evaluate/diagnose student speech and language problems.
• Provides speech and language therapy services and develops classroom activities to enhance student academic and speech/language capabilities.
• Monitors student progress and ensures alignment with IEP goals and objectives.
• Maintains appropriate student records and progress reports as required by District, State, and Federal standards.
• Serves as a resource for other staff members on how best to support students with speech and language problems.
• Participates in IEP meetings and parent consultations and offers guidance for families on how best to assist students with speech and language problems outside of the classroom.
• Keeps up to date with new developments in speech and language therapy research and techniques and incorporates them into lesson plans.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
