About The Position

The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant will perform services and consultation with teachers at school sites; provide activities designed to develop language skills and articulation skills including speech production, vocalization and social pragmatics in students with speech/language disorders. Founded by educators with a deeply held desire to bridge the growing resource gap between schools and the populations they serve, PSE's network of credentialed professionals is available to districts locally as well virtually, to provide comprehensive and tailored services to students and their families. In addition to pioneering virtual special education services, PSE has also developed several progressive student programs including enrichment workshops, multi-day mainstreaming events, and unique support groups like the wildly successful Girl Talk. PSE also works with schools to develop customized programming for students and staff. Since 2012, PSE has supported California communities by striving to help districts and students meet their goals of: Improving student matriculation, test results, and graduation rates Increasing inclusion and social confidence Ensuring compliance to avoid costly fines or legal action Preserving vital district resources by leveraging PSE's wide range of staff, systems, and services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles
  • Ability and willingness to implement students’ IEP’s
  • Effective record keeping and procedures
  • Speech, language, hearing development, disorders and rehabilitation
  • Articulation disorders and rehabilitation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues, parents and community.
  • Special education experience.
  • AA Degree
  • Completion of a Speech and Language Pathology Assistant Program
  • Registration as a Speech and Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California

Nice To Haves

  • 1 Year working with students with special needs in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct speech-language screenings using a variety of screening tools and techniques.
  • Follow documented therapy plans.
  • Documentation of student progress.
  • Prepare therapy materials for use in pullout small group setting or in classroom setting
  • Adapt or modify instructional materials as determined by student need and abilities for teacher-use in the classroom.
  • Consult with general education teachers to co-plan instructional materials or implement strategies.

  • Track performance data using progress monitoring tools and report progress on IEP goals
  • Communicate progress to parents, teachers and Speech and Language Pathologist in regular meetings, phone conversations and progress notes.
  • Participate in IEP process; attend meetings when appropriate and attend parent conferences
  • Collaborates with members of IEP Team, Special Education Team and School site team.
