About The Position

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Shall complete, necessary and appropriate evaluations to support recommendations to IEP Teams relative to eligibility for Special Education. Shall complete, necessary and appropriate evaluations to support direct instruction for students assigned to the caseload of the Speech and Language Pathologist. Shall complete, necessary and appropriate case notes to allow completion of required progress notes, and to support retention and or dismissal of Speech Services to the student. Shall provide necessary direct and/or support instruction as per the student’s IEP to improve speech and language skills of students. Shall participate in a Response to Intervention process as identified by the district of assignment. Shall prepare IEP’s including Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance and instructional goals and objectives for each student on the caseload. Shall participate in IEP Team meetings. Shall maintain accurate student information, progress information and caseload information. Shall provide liaison with staff and parents. Shall assist Regular and Special Education teachers in providing speech improvement supports for students. Shall evaluate students' speech and language skills and write reports, as indicated. Shall maintain liaison with the Audiologist.

Requirements

  • Masters in Speech and Language Pathology or Teacher of Speech and Language Impairments per R340.1796.
  • Michigan License to practice Speech and Language Pathology.
  • CCC-SLP (ASHA)
  • Candidates in their CFY may be considered.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and school administrators.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well with others as a team member in a work team environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, promptness, and ability to prioritize work schedule.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills to work effectively with staff, administrators, and outside agencies in the delivery of special education services.
  • Demonstrate collaborative skills to work effectively with staff, students, parents, the community and groups.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in an organization that is based in Quality Improvement and utilizes teams and collaborative decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to keep all students, parent, and staff information confidential.
  • Demonstrate the ability and/or willingness to learn and utilize basic computer skills including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrate the ability to present self and appearance in a professional manner.
  • Must have dependable transportation and a valid Michigan driver’s license.
  • Must have good references.
  • Must have good attendance record.
