Requirements

  • License - SPEECH AND LANGUAGE IMPAIRMENTS
  • Must possess a valid Speech and Language Pathologist license.
  • Must have a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field.
  • Must have at least one year of experience working with children in a school setting.
  • Must have knowledge of speech and language development and disorders.
  • Must have knowledge of assessment and intervention strategies for speech and language impairments.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with students, parents/guardians, peers, administration, and community members.
  • Must be able to maintain and improve professional competence.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with assistive technology.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource to school staff members for professional development regarding communication related skills.
  • Assists and guides teacher in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students with speech and language impairments.
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language impairments.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides an individualized program of speech and language therapy to meet individual student's needs.
  • Collaborates with classroom teacher and other staff members in the implementation of therapy into daily activities.
  • Accurately completes requisition forms to request appropriate materials and equipment for speech and language programs that comply with the budget.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records and inventories as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Cooperates and communicates with building principals concerning the speech therapy program in their school.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of all students.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Work cooperatively with students, parents/guardians, peers, administration, and community members.
  • Participate as an active member with other faculty and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by principal.
