About The Position

Provides specialized instruction for students (K–12) with significant and complex learning needs including autism, cognitive disabilities, and behavioral challenges. Focuses on delivering individualized, evidence-based instruction that supports academic growth, communication, social-emotional development, and functional life skills. Creates structured, supportive learning environments, promotes meaningful inclusion in general education settings, and supports the development of student independence within the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). This position also includes case management responsibilities, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and supervision of educational assistants.

Requirements

  • Colorado READ Act designation, which can be acquired via the options described at https://www.cde.state.co.us/coloradoliteracy
  • Colorado Department of Education, Special Education Generalist License
  • Colorado Department of Education
  • Bachelor's Degree: Special Education (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver individualized, data-driven instruction across academic, communication, social-emotional, behavioral, and functional skill areas
  • Adapt and modify curriculum, including those aligned with grade level standards and Extended Evidence Outcomes, based on student needs
  • Implement structured teaching and evidence-based practices to support access and engagement
  • Support expressive and receptive language use, including modeling and implementation of the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
  • Provide instruction in individual and small-group settings and adjust instruction based on ongoing data
  • Serve as case manager, leading the development, implementation, and progress monitoring of IEPs, FBAs, and BIPs
  • Collect and use academic and behavioral data to inform instructional decisions
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
  • Facilitate IEP meetings and maintain ongoing communication with families and team members
  • Create and maintain a structured, safe, and predictable classroom environment
  • Implement proactive behavior supports and respond effectively to complex student needs
  • Support students in developing daily living and functional skills (e.g., hygiene, mobility, feeding, healthcare)
  • Promote student independence, communication, and social development
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure coordinated services and inclusive practices
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and support educational assistants in all their duties
  • Participate in district and building-level professional development, team meetings, and school initiatives
  • Establish and maintain effective cooperative relationships with district/school personnel, students, and families/caregivers
