About The Position

This position is for a SPED Teacher - Moderate Needs / Intervention Specialist - LIT, working 20 hours weekly. The Intervention Specialist, under the supervision of the Principal and/or Assistant Principal, teaches students academic subjects, social skills, behavioral skills, and other educational areas. They plan, develop, organize, implement, and assess a comprehensive educational program, assist in other school programs, and create a supportive learning environment. The role encourages students to reach their academic potential. The SPED Teacher - Moderate Needs role serves students across all levels (PK-12) who benefit from universal and targeted special education services. Moderate needs teachers provide an individualized service delivery model, primarily using inclusive practices with special education support both inside and outside the general classroom. Candidates should possess knowledge of effective instruction, technology integration, and individualizing instruction based on cognitive, social, emotional, and adaptive functioning. They should also have knowledge of child development, behavior management, consultation, and the developmental needs of school-aged children and adolescents. Additionally, effective case management, written and oral communication, IEP development and maintenance, collaborative relationships with school personnel, students, and parents, understanding and empathy for students and families, and the ability to function as a team member and facilitator are required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill regarding the components of effective instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the assimilation of technology into the learning environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behavior management in the context of a general classroom or small group environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in department and school meetings, and parent meetings.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
  • Plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
  • Utilize technology and integrate the use of technology to provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Observe, evaluate, encourage and provide feedback on student's performance and development.
  • Provide student support and counseling for academic problems.
  • Support certain extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations.
