About The Position

The AHS SPED Teacher Assistant's goal is to assist students and teachers in meeting stated educational goals. This role requires adherence to ESSA guidelines for paraprofessionals, ensuring they meet highly qualified requirements. The assistant will work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, help with special needs such as toileting and feeding, and support teachers in various classroom activities. A strong understanding of IEP accommodations and the ability to implement them are crucial. The position involves direct supervision of students and requires consistent attendance and adherence to safety procedures.

Requirements

Obtained an associate's or higher degree; or Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or Passed a test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics
Two years' experience working with children
Strong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely.
Familiar with IEP accommodations and able to follow and implement accommodations outlined in the document.
Successfully participates in required training.

Responsibilities

Assist students, teachers, and others as directed.
Assisting students with toileting, feeding, and any other special needs.
Administer, score, and record such achievements and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned.
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills.
Know and follow all safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the position.
Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment.
Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely.
Familiar with IEP accommodations and able to follow and implement accommodations outlined in the document.
Successfully participates in required training.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, school principal, and/or Superintendent.
