About The Position

This position supports students within the SPED STARS/RISES program, reporting to the Principal. The Instructional Aide will assist teachers with instructional materials, classroom management, and student supervision, particularly for students assigned to the In-School Suspension (ISS) classroom. Key responsibilities include behavior management, providing instructional assistance, maintaining classroom order, and administrative tasks.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education
• Obtained an associate’s degree or higher
• Meet a rigorous standard of quality test
• Ability to interpret and establish appropriate rules, methods and techniques in maintaining a disciplined academic environment
• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively

Nice To Haves

• Some experience working with children and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques is encouraged

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Provide supervision for students assigned to the In-School Suspension classroom.
• Work with students and staff on issues such as behavior management and prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in students being assigned to ISS.
• Monitor all ISS assignments, provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests and classwork, and provide instructional assistance as appropriate.
• Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups or whole class.
• Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
• Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
