About The Position

This position is for a SPED Life Skills Instructional Aide at DHS. The role is FLSA non-exempt and reports to the Principal. The primary function is to assist teachers in supporting students with special educational needs, particularly in life skills development.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education
  • Obtained an associate’s degree or higher
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality test
  • Ability to work well with children and in a 1-on-1 setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups or whole class.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Attendance is an essential job function.
