About The Position

University Instructors, LLC is seeking talented people from diverse backgrounds to lead, change, and inspire students in the Danville, VA area. In this role you will serve students in special education programs as a classroom teacher. Candidates that hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in ANY field are eligible to take part in our pathways program. In this program you have the opportunity to become eligible for a provisional teaching license in SPED for school year 2026-2027 and beyond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Willingness to work toward obtaining a provisional Special Education License in the state of Virginia.
  • Completion of a Foundations of Special Education course or willingness to complete the course as a condition of employment.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices, classroom management strategies, and special education methodologies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and support staff.
  • Ability to assess student performance and implement appropriate instructional strategies for learners with varying abilities.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with school-based and community professionals to support student learning and development.

Nice To Haves

  • Eligible for or in possession of an appropriate Virginia Teaching License or Provisional Special Education License preferred.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and other content areas.
  • Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
  • Adapt instruction, assessments, and classroom activities to meet individual student needs and IEP goals.
  • Create an organized, positive, and functional classroom environment that supports student independence and effective learning.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional and behavioral intervention strategies to support student success in the least restrictive environment.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate IEPs in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Support and participate in the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) process, including data collection and analysis.
  • Monitor student academic, behavioral, and social progress through ongoing assessment and data-based decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate student records, progress reports, inventories, and documentation required by school, district, and state guidelines.
  • Administer state, district, and standardized assessments in accordance with established procedures and accommodations.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, administrators, families, and outside agencies to maximize student outcomes.
  • Supervise and support paraprofessionals and other classroom support staff.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, expectations, and educational programming.
  • Manage student behavior using effective classroom management and evidence-based practices.
  • Supervise students during classroom and out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and evaluation processes to maintain professional competence and instructional effectiveness.
  • Utilize multimedia and instructional technology to enhance student learning.
  • Review student records and assessment data to determine appropriate programming and instructional supports.
  • Perform duties in classroom settings and/or community-based or work experience environments as assigned.
