About The Position

The Specimen Technician is responsible for performing various functions related to specimen processing in a laboratory setting. This role requires accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to compliance regulations. The technician will handle tasks such as data entry, specimen handling, and maintaining a clean work area, while adapting to changing demands and communicating effectively with staff.

Requirements

Data entry speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.
Basic understanding of computers.
HS diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
Previous laboratory experience.
Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
Previous hospital laboratory experience.
Previous experience in a production environment.

Responsibilities

Perform functions including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting.
Perform all functions with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner.
Maintain good organization skills and learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered.
Learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis.
Adapt to many different demands made by the customer.
Work in a production environment with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times.
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
Adhere to core values, safety and compliance policies and procedures.
Keep work area neat and clean.
