About The Position

The Specimen Technician works in a production environment focused on productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times. The role requires learning and understanding compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily, and adapting to varying customer demands. The technician enters data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour, works in a biohazard environment while following good safety practices, and communicates effectively with staff at all levels. The role also involves keeping the work area neat and clean, following core values and safety and compliance policies, and fostering a positive environment through strong interpersonal skills and flexibility.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic understanding of computers.
Prior laboratory experience required.
Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
Flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
Effective communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Availability to work weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime as required.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
Medical background, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
Previous hospital laboratory experience.
Previous experience in a production environment.
