About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Specimen Processor to join our team. The Specimen Processor will be responsible for performing specimen accessioning, sample sorting and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operating procedures. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy of millions of healthcare tests, every month, by strengthening physician care. The Specimen Processor will introduce and prepare biological specimens to the laboratory to ensure accurate processing, open specimens and pour off into secondary containers to prepare for analysis and testing, and verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted. They will also be responsible for data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes, meeting key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results, and unpacking and routing specimens to their respective staging areas. Additionally, the role involves packing and shipping specimens to proper testing facilities when required, properly preparing and storing excess specimen samples, resolving and documenting any problem specimens, and handling and disposing of medical and chemical waste. The Specimen Processor must also comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures and may operate automated instrumentation under supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Proficient computer and typing skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine and tissue samples
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs, work in protective equipment and sit/stand for long periods of time
  • Strong eye hand coordination in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
  • Exceptional customer service
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision

  • 6 Months or more medical office or hospital data entry

Responsibilities
