Specimen Processors are responsible for receiving, preparing, and processing most samples that come into the department. This role involves accurately processing standard requisitions, removing specimens from transport bags, entering patient data, labeling samples, and aliquoting as needed for multiple testing. The position also includes managing sample inventory after testing, sorting samples for distribution, scanning tubes into storage racks, and verifying data accuracy. The Specimen Processor will also assist other lab personnel with specimen storage, ensure Turn Around Times (TAT’s) are met, and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), including safety and quality procedures. Maintaining a clean and organized work area and restocking supplies are also key responsibilities. Associates are expected to consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience.
