About The Position

Job Summary: Collects, processes, and delivers specimens to lab departments while maintaining specimen integrity and within a prescribed time frame. Performs data entry and clerical duties to initiate and facilitate the processing of specimens.
Requirements
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
- Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
Responsibilities
- Collects, processes, and delivers specimens to lab departments while maintaining specimen integrity and within a prescribed time frame.
- Performs data entry and clerical duties to initiate and facilitate the processing of specimens.
- Employs positive patient identification procedures to ensure the integrity of each specimen for pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing.
- Performs proper specimen collection, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation (including centrifuge), transportation and storage.
- Responds accordingly to STAT, ASAP, routine and timed orders.
- Performs data entry and clerical duties to initiate and expedite the processing of specimens (enters patient information and orders tests).
- Communicates with other departments and staff, including physicians, to facilitate the flow and quality of lab work.
- Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
- Prepares referral test specimens for pick up by courier, performs data entry of referral results and maintains referral filing system.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
