About The Position

As a Specimen Management Tech, your excellent attention to detail and communications skills are crucial to prompt and accurate specimen analysis and patient care. This role involves preparing laboratory samples for testing, operating imaging systems, communicating with departments and physicians, and accurately preparing specimens and paperwork for transfer and testing. Additionally, you will be responsible for entering and labeling laboratory samples in an accurate and timely manner, retrieving requisitions, and maintaining a manual filing system. Maintaining knowledge and competency in necessary computer systems and common operating systems within the department is also a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

• Must possess skills and the ability to understand written instruction and receive and transmit information correctly.
• Data entry/computer skills.

Nice To Haves

• Medical terminology and understanding of billing issues preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory samples for testing
• Operate imaging system as appropriate
• Communicate with departments and physicians regarding laboratory testing, results and sample requirements
• Prepare specimens and paperwork accurately for transfer and testing done in other departments
• Enter and label laboratory samples in an accurate and timely manner
• Retrieve requisitions as requested
• Maintain a manual filing system for outpatient/inpatient requisitions
• Maintain knowledge and competency in necessary computer systems
• Have a working knowledge of common operating systems in many areas of the department
