About The Position

The Specimen Collector is responsible for the collection of patient specimens in physician’s offices, including urine and oral fluid specimens, and potentially Covid-19 specimens. This role involves completing requisition forms, ensuring specimen integrity, obtaining patient information, shipping specimens to the laboratory, and entering patient data into EMR or LIS systems. The position may also include requesting missing patient information, scheduling appointments, and performing general office tasks as directed by the Field Operations Supervisor.

  • Strong interpersonal & patient care skills.
  • Strong technical ability to perform tasks with sound judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willing and able to complete all varieties of specimen collection.
  • Perform job duties as assigned by Ethos and directly related to Ethos specimen collections.
  • Partner with Regional and Territory Managers to provide strong team representation and set up proper protocols for specimen collection.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
  • Ability to utilize technology to complete work in a remote environment: update personnel documents and complete online training and utilize Apps on a smart phone to clock in and out.

Nice To Haves

  • Specimen collection, medical, or laboratory experience preferred, but not required.
  • Customer service, Logistics, Data Entry experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect all urine samples and enter data in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Collect anterior nasal swabs for Covid-19 testing, if requested.
  • Obtain blood specimen collection from patients following Ethos venipuncture protocols, if applicable.
  • Follow established patient protocols.
  • Maintain specimen integrity by following Ethos standard operating procedures and reference materials.
  • Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and completing paper requisition forms.
  • Label specimens for identification and prepare samples for shipment to the lab.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and clean work environment by following standard procedures and compliance guidelines.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and training provided by Ethos.
  • Adhere to Ethos professional standards, policies, and procedures, and meet federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Maintain positive interactions with patients and clinic staff, representing Ethos core values.
  • Work independently and be supervised remotely.
  • Complete assigned computer learnings and remain current with competency sign-offs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
