Job Summary: Location: Nebraska Methodist Women's Hospital Address: 707 N 190th Plaza, Elkhorn, NE Work Schedule: Evening hours, 16 hrs./wk. Provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures.

Requirements

Education American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered or board eligible required.
Participation in mandatory inservices and continuing education as mandated by policies & procedures, and as directed by supervisors.
Experience Must be pediatric board registered one year from date of independent scanning of pediatric patients.
License/Certifications Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered or board eligible required.
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registry is required with in one year of employment date.
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonogrpaher (RDMS) registry of the General, OB/GYN and Pediatric are the minimum requirements.
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) is required to be kept active.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients and family members as well as hospital personnel and coworkers required.
Ability to effectively organize work in order to perform several tasks at once required.
Demonstration of critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Has the ability to produce quality examinations that will best demonstrate pathology and normal anatomical structure of the pediatric patient for interpretation by the radiologist.
Has the ability to make quality decisions, work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions.
Demonstration of critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
As an additional position in the Health System the requirements of both positions need to be kept up to date.

Responsibilities

Exam performance/quality.
Identifies each patient by ID band verification and birth date.
Ensures patient understanding of pending procedure.
Cover appropriate body parts and position patient correctly.
Follows appropriate guidelines and departmental protocols.
Performs exams as priority dictates and as directed.
Critiques each exam for technical and positional accuracy and makes appropriate corrections if necessary.
Follows American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines.
Check all films with Radiologist and discuss end results.
Explains the exam using age specific criteria and makes sure of patient's understanding.
Maintains excellence in scanning (skills check off list).
Workflow management.
Review orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy prior to exam.
Willfully assists physicians, patients, and coworkers as needed and seeks opportunities to provide patient care.
Understand and support the direction and workflow of the department.
Maintain awareness of ongoing exams and assist co-workers as needed.
Provide exam information and status updates to pertinent staff members.
Relieves co-workers from procedures/exams as necessary.
Be in the department and ready to work at the start of scheduled shift.
Have processes set in place to allow for leaving at the end of scheduled shift.
Obtain and consolidate all images, reports and history with completed exam information for review.
Take call.
Coordinates inpatient procedure flow. (Hospital Only)
Provides management of ultrasound department workflow as needed.
Systems/Cerner.
Maintain a working knowledge of Cerner.
Starts and completes own exams correctly and in a timely manner.
Consistently uses the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status.
Verify correct images matched with order.
Demonstrates knowledge of RIS/PACS/Navicre/Outlook/Angel/mhsintranet/VRAD.
Consistently uses Exam Management for order modification, to document comments and film usage/repeats.
Show a working knowledge of Folder Media and Order View/Entry capabilities.
Consistently uses Film Tracking to document the movement of the films throughout their usage.
Show a working knowledge of Order View/Entry capabilities.
Maintain working knowledge of Outlook and mhsintranet.
Able to perform clean up functions on PACS workstation - (hospital).
Maintain Working knowledge of Navicare (hospital).
Maintain working knowledge of VRAD (hospital).
Department Policy/Procedures.
Ensures proper patient identification on all images to comply with department policies and procedures.
Willingly seeks opportunity to provide patient care, or assist others as needed.
Demonstrates knowledge of department guidelines through responsible behavior/actions.
Maintains updated ARDMS license.
Ensures that call reports and/or other specifications are followed through.
Report issues/concerns as soon as possible and provide assistance with resolution/follow-up.

Provide leadership and guidance for students' education clinical experience.

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Age Specific Criteria”.
