About The Position

Specialty Radiology modalities are considered to be either mammography and/or CT technologies. Specialty Radiologic Technologists will spend more than 50% of their work time in one or more of the specialty modalities. A technologist may also perform plain film XR imaging, fluoro, and/or DEXA studies as needed by the department. A technologist will assist radiologists in performing procedures. The technologist will obtain images of excellent diagnostic quality while providing maximum comfort and patient safety in all assigned areas. ALARA radiation safety principles are required. Adheres to departmental policy, institutional policy, sponsor/protocol requirements, and FDA regulations as necessary.

Requirements

  • 2-year college certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Participates in required Mammographic and CT continuing education as required.
  • NYS License in Radiologic Technology.
  • For the CT modality, a NYS License in Radiologic Technology with injection within 3 months of hire.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification (ARRT) Required.

Nice To Haves

  • Mammography and/or CT experience preferred.
  • ARRT Advanced Level Certificate in specialty area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic, screening, ultrasound and interventional mammography procedures; perform daily and periodic Mammography QA/QC activities under the direct supervision of the Mammography QA Technologist; responsible for radiography of patients in all assigned areas, including CT scanning and Interventional CT guided procedures; administer IV contrast dye; monitor image quality on a continuous basis to ensure all quality standards are met; provide excellent patient service
  • Clean, restock, and prepare rooms on a daily basis; monitor equipment for proper performance and functionality
  • Maintain accountability for proper documentation of exams and related procedures, utilizing the RIS/PACS and inpatient charts as necessary
