About The Position

Under limited supervision, performs distributive and clinical pharmacy functions in accordance with regulatory requirements and organizational quality initiatives. Distributive functions include: performing the final check of appropriate medications prior to dispensing; maintaining the required security and control of medications; assuring the completion of appropriate documents and records; supervising pharmacy support staff. Clinical functions include: medication order review and computer entry; providing consultative drug information and recommendations to physicians and nurses; conducting patient assessments and making appropriate interventions; administering established clinical programs and medication management programs. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in their area. As a member of the retail pharmacy team, the clinical pharmacist role will include specific tasks unique to this setting. Reporting to the Manager for Outpatient Pharmacy Services, this individual will work with limited supervision within the scope of licensure and any collaborative practice agreements necessary to ensure safe and appropriate patient care across a broader continuum of care. A familiarity with retail pharmacy software products, medication purchasing/receiving/shipping practices, 340B operations, and patient care practices unique to the outpatient setting are essential to this role. Close collaboration with other members of the retail pharmacy team is expected, in addition to providing representation for the outpatient practice model within the greater pharmacy team on committees and taskforces. Pay Range: $119,225.60 - 178,838.40 USD Annual Employment Type: Full time, 80 hours every 2 weeks. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4pm, no weekends, no holidays.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Michigan
  • Required Certification: Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery through APhA

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience in the retail/specialty/infusion pharmacy settings
  • Experience with retail pharmacy operational and clinical management software, inventory management and medication-specific shipping/receiving practices.
  • Experience in working within payer guidelines, especially related to specialty and specialty-like medications.
  • Experience with using EHR; Cerner and e-ClinicalWorks a bonus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Working knowledge of 340B Program and its impact on acquisition/dispensing medication.

Responsibilities

  • Performs medication order interpretation, evaluation, and processing in accordance with organizational expectations.
  • Oversees medication preparation, distribution, security, and management in accordance with regulatory requirements and organization expectations.
  • Performs clinical pharmacy functions and administers established clinical programs.
  • Supports the department managers and physician offices with the development and monitoring of clinical initiatives as needed.
  • Contributes to the continued development and improvement of pharmacy services.
  • Supports the quality and effectiveness of the department practices.
  • Maintains good customer relations with physicians, nurses, patient, and fellow staff members in the provision of pharmacy services as evidenced by lack of complaints or occurrences.
  • Provides daily oversight of adherence to organizational "medication management" policies.
  • Supervision of technical support personnel.
  • Responsible for the daily adherence to "medication management" policies, procedures, and best practices in accordance with regulatory requirements and organizational expectations.
  • Supervises pharmacy technicians.
  • Provides education, training and oversight to students and volunteers.
  • As authorized by the Pharmacy Manager to serve in their absence as their designated alternate, assumes responsibility for the overall Specialty Pharmacy Program’s operation and services, including pharmacy performance, personnel, and patient management oversight.
  • When appropriate, utilizes support systems in place to maintain leadership continuity, not limited to: the Director of Pharmacy, the Compliance Officer, the Human Resources Department, and the Finance Department.
  • Upon the Pharmacy Manager’s return, provides relevant updates and handoffs to ensure continuity of leadership activities.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards governing outpatient infusion services.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support outpatient infusion services in alignment with licensure, credentialing, and accreditation standards.
  • Coordinates care with providers, nurses, payers, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective therapy.
  • Supports sterile compounding operations in compliance with USP <797> and USP <800>, including verification of final compounded preparations.
  • Supports infusion operations such as scheduling, device selection, and coordination with infusion nursing teams.
  • Reviews infusion medication orders for appropriateness, dosing, compatibility, interactions, and patient‑specific considerations.
  • Conducts ongoing clinical monitoring, including labs, therapy response, and adverse event evaluation.
  • Educates patients on infusion therapy, expectations, and side‑effect monitoring.
  • Participates in sterile compounding quality assurance activities such as environmental monitoring and competency assessments.
  • Communicates with nurses, prescribers, and care coordinators to resolve medication‑related issues.
  • Supports transitions of care related to initiation, continuation, or discontinuation of infusion therapy.
  • Collaborates with authorization teams by providing clinical information for prior authorizations and appeals.
