About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a certificated teacher, to assist in the instruction and supervision of students in a specialized program; to perform a variety of instructional support tasks; and to do other related work as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate's degree, or completion of two years of college (48 semester units) or a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or special needs setting.
  • Ability to assist with personal care needs of students.
  • Knowledge of basic child development and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a teacher assistant or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with students with specific disabilities relevant to the specialized program.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) may be preferred in some assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students, reinforcing lessons and activities introduced by the teacher.
  • Supervise students in the classroom, during recess, lunch, and other school activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and hygiene, as required.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment and materials used in the classroom.
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, including copying, laminating, and setting up activities.
  • Observe and record student progress, behavior, and other relevant information, and report to the teacher.
  • Collaborate with the teacher and other school staff to support student learning and development.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
  • Participate in staff development and training sessions as required.
