About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a certificated teacher, to assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction and supervision to individuals or small groups of students with special needs; to perform a variety of instructional and non-instructional duties in a classroom or other learning environment; and to do other related work as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associate's degree, or completion of two years of college (48 semester units) or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Passage of the Paraprofessional Assessment (PPA) or equivalent.
  • One year of experience working with children in an educational or structured setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with special needs.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience with specific disabilities or special education programs.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction and supervision to individuals or small groups of students with special needs.
  • Perform a variety of instructional and non-instructional duties in a classroom or other learning environment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Assist with classroom management and behavior support.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional periods such as lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Prepare instructional materials and learning centers.
  • Assist with record-keeping and progress monitoring.
  • Communicate with teachers, parents, and other staff regarding student progress and needs.
  • Operate standard classroom equipment and assistive technology.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Participate in staff development and training sessions.
