About The Position

The Specialized Finance Manager provides seasoned specialized knowledge, advice and/or guidance to various stakeholders and team members in a specialized finance function or discipline. This is a highly seasoned expert professional role requiring substantial knowledge/expertise in a complex field and knowledge of broader related areas. The role integrates knowledge of the enterprise sub-function’s or business line’s overarching strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations. The manager is accountable for their own work and sometimes others, acting as an escalation point or knowledge resource for others in their area. They interpret internal/external business challenges and the industry environment, recommending courses of action and best practices to improve products, processes, or services. As a technical expert/lead, they integrate cross-functional understanding within their field of specialty and may manage teams of related specialists. They lead cross-functional teams or projects with significant resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity, and independently manage end-to-end finance programs. The role solves complex problems, or leads others to solve them, and leads efforts or partners with others to develop new solutions. They use sophisticated analytical thought and technical knowledge to exercise judgment and identify solutions, impacting the achievement of sub-function or business line objectives. Communication involves conveying difficult concepts, converting information into compelling business context and advice, and influencing and gaining alignment across increasingly senior stakeholders. The role operates autonomously as the lead and guides others within their area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree and/or 7+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Accounting, financial or relevant professional designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Focuses on comprehensive reviews, specialized analysis, audits and/or initiatives and a variety of complex projects and initiatives requiring seasoned specialist knowledge and/or the integration of cross functional processes within own area of expertise.
  • Facilitates integration of several key functional areas and/or business lines in dealing and solving highly complex financial management/ specialized accounting / taxation / audit / regulatory reporting and operational issues.
  • Acts as the primary interface with Finance partners /leaders and external parties.
  • Acts as key contact and expert within area of expertise for the development, design and delivery of effective accounting/ taxation processes, policies, programs and advice.
  • Maintains awareness of changing legal/regulatory requirements and practices within the industry and consults with policy/process owners within Accounting/ Taxation to ensure compliance.
  • Engages, manages and influences internal/external cross-functional partners to develop/deliver integrated solutions.
  • Accountable for the development and delivery of broad enterprise wide accounting/ taxation policies and initiatives, which may have significant regulatory components.
  • Creates business cases and innovative recommendations.
  • Executes on diverse and complex policies, implements and develops activities and tools for businesses.
  • Supports financial strategy and management activities.
  • Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for our business area.
  • Ensures respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities.
  • Consistently exercises discretion in managing correspondence, information and all matters of confidentiality; escalates issues where appropriate.
  • Ensures business operations are in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements (e.g., financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals and physical control of assets).
  • Participates in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations.
  • Conducts internal and external research projects; supports the development/ delivery of presentations / communications to management or broader audience.
  • Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/ policies/ practices.
  • Monitors service, productivity and assesses efficiency levels within own function and implements continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist.
  • Leads / facilitates and/or implements actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues.
  • Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts.
  • Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite.
  • Participates fully as a member of the team, supports a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensures timely communication of issues/ points of interest.
  • Provides thought leadership and/or industry knowledge for own area of expertise in own area and participates in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit.
  • Keeps current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques.
  • Participates in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training within own team.
  • Keeps others informed and up-to-date about the status / progress of projects and / or all relevant or useful information related to day-to-day activities.
  • Contributes to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of others, by sharing knowledge and experiences and leveraging best practices.
  • Leads, motivates and develops relationships with internal and external business partners / stakeholders to develop productive working relationships.
