About The Position

The primary function of this position is to troubleshoot, re-build, repair, & test components at an expert as well as lead and coach other technicians. This role involves performing failure analysis on failed components, making repair recommendations, and utilizing manuals and diagrams for troubleshooting and repair of various components such as engines, transmissions, and torque converters. The position also requires proficiency in using computers for parts information and data entry, as well as operating tools and equipment for disassembly, reassembly, and testing. Additionally, the role includes leadership duties such as assisting with performance appraisals, coaching technicians, directing daily job assignments for a team, and ensuring proper processes and procedures are followed.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Six years of Cat experience.
  • Fully understands all equipment systems (i.e. engines, hydraulics, electrical, sub-electrical, transmissions, etc.) for almost all equipment model lines.
  • Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb besides, onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.
  • Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 100 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
  • Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Should have exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Provides training of other technicians.
  • Assigns work assignments.
  • Promotes good customer service and resolves their problems.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, re-build, repair, & test components at an expert level.
  • Perform failure analysis on failed components and make repair recommendations in accordance with Caterpillar reusability guidelines and established service procedures.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to perform independent troubleshooting and repair of components (engines, transmission, torque converters, fuel systems).
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, & other aides to lift or move parts into position to be repaired.
  • Use hand & power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & components.
  • Be proficient at using resources and computers to reference parts, get information about parts & enter data into record systems.
  • Use tools to disassemble/re assemble components; cleans parts with rags, cleaners, power washer; uses test equipment to make diagnostic checks; and controls powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Perform transmission bench testing and engine DYNO testing.
  • Assist supervisor with performance appraisals.
  • Coach, guide and develop technicians.
  • Direct day to day job assignments and responsibilities for up to five or more technicians in squad.
  • Work with squad members to ensure proper processes and procedures are used to ensure that the product we turn out is a true representation of the customers’ and GPEC expectations.
