About The Position

The Tool Design Engineer develops manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes and participates in engineering project teams to coordinate the release of new products. The role designs manufacturing tooling for producing solid-fuel rocket motors and warheads, including jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated equipment used to cast and assemble products. It also involves designing major components or portions of functional systems to improve products and support manufacturing operations. The engineer uses CAD equipment to develop design data, preliminary layouts, sketches, and proposals, while evaluating factors such as manufacturability, material and equipment availability, interchangeability, strength-to-weight efficiency, contractual requirements, and cost. The position designs mechanical equipment using PTC Creo and Windchill, works with production, program management, and safety teams to define requirements and tooling needs, and identifies equipment problems and designs repairs or modifications. This experienced professional role uses proficient knowledge of its area and practical project-management knowledge. The engineer may manage projects or processes with general supervision, communicate operational processes and procedures to internal and external contacts, recommend system and process enhancements, and work toward operational targets for programs and projects. The role requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
