Requirements

High School diploma
Working knowledge of medical terminology
Trained in Medical coding, anatomy, and physiology
One year experience with computerized database or other pertinent information system in a hospital or medical care facility
Materials Management knowledge
Experience with tracking and managing all stages of the tissue handling process
Comprehensive knowledge of requisite McKesson modules or other similar systems.
Strong aptitude for numbers, and be detail oriented.
Ability to maintain a vendor information and product database.
Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, and Outlook as well as the ability to generate practical documents.
Ability to work effectively and tactfully and to represent MGH appropriately during contacts with public, staff, physicians and other departments
Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and self-motivated
Ability to plan and organize

Responsibilities

Responsible for the effective operation of surgical services system computer programs related to patient charges, materials management, and resource scheduling.
Prepare, enter, review, and correct all patient charges in collaboration with business related services such as financial, purchasing, ordering, and receiving.
Interface with vendor representatives, surgeons, physician offices, and operating room staff to ensure the effective coordination and availability of all equipment, items, and instruments for surgical procedures, while ensuring accurate invoice information and pricing.
Validate patient charting, audit as appropriate.
Prepare monthly financial reports for transferring charges to other departments.
Utilize cost-effective approaches and practices.
Control purchase orders, tissue tracking forms, and Intra-Op Implant Tracking Records for Perioperative Services.
Communicate status of inventory controls to appropriate stakeholders, involving all of perioperative service, including surgical tissue and implants.
Collaborate with clinical service leads to establish, inventory, and maintain adequate par levels of tissue for perioperative services.
Monitor, rotate, and remove outdated inventory, and assure perioperative services par levels are correctly adjusted and ensures thorough inventory return procedures are observed.
Assist Perioperative Management and Clinical Practitioners with goal setting and financial management for optimal control of supply costs to adhere to budget controls.
Provide timely data collection and data analysis to compile information necessary in supporting thorough tissue tracking, and to provide the Value Analysis Team (VAT) the means for product selection, financial analysis, and essential statistical data for perioperative services.
Anticipate problems and work independently with vendors, clinical service leads, and management of supply chain to ensure daily surgical services operate optimally.
Provide a high level of service for all customers (e.g., physicians, health care industry representatives [HCIRs], perioperative personnel) and prompt responses for emergently needed (STAT) tissue/implants.
Notify quality and risk manager and other relevant personnel of tissue/implant product recalls.
Serve as a subject matter expert for Champion Tissue Tracking system; participate in perioperative committees such as Value Analysis Team and the Sustainability Purchasing Revenue committee; and, assist Director of Supply Chain and Executive Director of Perioperative Services with contract compliance and negotiating pricing for perioperative tissue/implants.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Assist as needed to provide backup for Patient Charges position.
