About The Position

The Teacher Development and Support Branch of the Human Resources Division is seeking a Specialist, Teacher Development and Support (38G, School Support Administrator, 0515). This role involves analyzing student data to design region-wide professional development for new teachers, collaborating with staff to enhance teacher retention, and assessing retention data. The specialist will utilize research-based strategies to design and deliver professional development for mentor teachers, provide guidance to provisional and university intern programs, and develop instructional tools for the LAUSD Learning to Teach pathway. Additionally, the position serves as a liaison between the branch and National Board Certified teachers, partners with MyPLN for professional learning modules, and offers individualized support to site administrators in mentor selection. The role also includes developing and maintaining a mentor database, evaluating mentor teacher applications, and assisting with policies related to higher education affiliation agreements. The specialist will also participate in recognition committees and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes student data to identify, inform, and design region-wide professional development for new teachers to impact the instructional needs of students
  • Collaborates with region support staff and administrators to support new teachers to enhance teacher retention
  • Assesses and analyzes new teacher retention data to identify factors impacting retention rates
  • Utilizes research-based strategies to identify, design, and deliver professional development to mentor teachers designed to improve the retention of new teachers
  • Provides participants in provisional and university intern programs with guidance and support to meet state requirements and qualify for entry into preliminary credential programs
  • Develops instructional tools for participants in the LAUSD Learning to Teach pathway and shares the content with teacher mentors, site administrators, and other region support staff
  • Serves as an administrative liaison between the Teacher Development and Support Branch and National Board Certified teachers within LAUSD regions
  • Partners with MyPLN to develop in-person and online professional learning modules to support provisional teachers, university interns, and mentor teachers
  • Conducts individualized support to site administrators in the selection and assignment of mentors for program participants
  • Develops, maintains, and analyzes a centralized mentor database to facilitate the support of program participants and compliance with CTC guidelines
  • Evaluates and reviews mentor teacher applications
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures in relation to affiliation agreements with Institutes of Higher Education
  • Serves as a member of the various recognition committees and supports the nomination, selection, and recognition processes
  • Performs other duties as assigned
