Specialist, Software Engineer (Full Stack, AWS)
About The Position
This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio, Des Moines, Iowa, or Scottsdale, Arizona office 2 days (Wednesday & Thursday) per week. Remote internal associates may also be considered. We have an exciting opportunity within Nationwide Financial Technology on a team supporting the Nationwide Financial Claims Desktop (NFCD) suite — and specifically for the Suitability asset in supporting the AIGO JET team. As a Specialist, Software Engineer, you will deliver new capabilities using Agentic AI solutions, Angular, Java, REST APIs, Microservices, and Informatica PowerCenter, while leading the team with AI-agent solutions that interpret new-business rules for straight thru processing. You will champion specification-driven, AI-assisted delivery — translating business intent into designs, acceptance criteria, and reusable engineering patterns — and work independently while helping to build capability for our operations partners for a more seamless experience. You will provide hands-on technical leadership for a cross-functional team, coaching teammates, raising engineering standards, and conducting code reviews. Supporting various business areas within Nationwide Financial, you will gain deep knowledge of annuity and claims processes, be exposed to new technology, and have real opportunities to innovate. As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high-quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document, and maintain applications.
Requirements
- Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degrees. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
- Four or more years of software engineering, analysis, or related technology experience.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript.
- Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
- Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.
