This role facilitates patient flow from point of entry to destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. The Specialist obtains required demographic and financial information to ensure accurate records, optimal reimbursement, and quality clinical outcomes. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, interviewing patients for appropriate medical information, explaining departmental and hospital policies, validating and entering charges into appropriate systems, collecting payments, and answering incoming calls while directing patients and visitors appropriately. Success in this position involves becoming proficient in Cerner, demonstrating effective patient communication, showing initiative, and adhering to policies and procedures within 3-6 months. Within 12 months, the Specialist is expected to be fully independent in all role responsibilities. Key competencies for this role include excellent communication skills, maintaining eye contact and a pleasant, professional tone, comfort interacting with challenging patients, and being adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment.
