About The Position

Join CRO’s Business Risk Oversight team, in the Specialist, Quality Assurance position, where you will provide risk oversight in monitoring and managing financial risks to CMHC’s commercial and non-commercial solutions in support of strategic corporate objectives. As a member of the team, you will be a key contributor to monitoring and reporting on enterprise-wide business and financial risks specifically related to Credit Risk but also related to Mortgage Loan Insurance, Securitization, Capital Investments, Market, Liquidity and/or Housing Programs. This is a temporary position of a duration of 12 months.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as finance, accounting, mathematics, economics or statistics.
  • A minimum of 5 years of financial risk oversight experience or related relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in some of the following areas: housing finance, credit risk, rating methodologies, capital and liquidity management, mortgage loan insurance, understanding of financial products, etc.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with demonstrated expertise in articulating complex concepts to various levels of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct analysis to support problem-solving and decision-making.

Nice To Haves

  • A professional designation, certification and/or specific training in risk management or financial analysis (e.g., Chartered Financial Analyst, Professional/Certified Risk Manager, Financial Risk Management, Chartered Professional Accountant, Certificate in Quantitative Finance).
  • Experience developing and maintaining stochastic projections and forward-looking capabilities to quantify risk and provide data-driven insights.
  • Experience in data analytics and/or risk reporting leveraging programming capabilities like Python or R.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages (English/French) would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent oversight to ensure CMHC’s financial risk management and risk control activities are robust and effective.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to identify, assess, measure, monitor and report on key financial risks to the Corporation.
  • Employ a combination of quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques such as financial statement analysis (credit); internal data analysis (insurance, capital); risk policy compliance; risk appetite development or monitoring; consultation and collaboration with internal stakeholders; and more.
  • Use tools, models and analytics to assess and measure aggregated credit and financial risk exposure and oversee business results against risk appetite.
  • Provide support and guidance to the business lines on risk management frameworks and policies to ensure effective management of risks and controls.
  • Influence strategic direction, policy setting and business decisions through the use of analytics and risk assessment results.
  • Remain current regarding regulatory guidance and industry-leading practices related to business and financial risk management and the housing market industry.
  • Identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Present key findings or recommendations to senior management.
