About The Position

Our Nestlé Development Center (NDC) in St. Joseph, MO is home to confident, well socialized dogs and cats who help us learn, research, and better understand the well-being of pets and promote the human animal bond. You'll work alongside a team passionate about pet care that ensures our pets have the best quality of care while participating in cutting edge pet food research. Our center is located near the metropolitan area of Kansas City, within 30 minutes of the Kansas City International airport. St. Joseph is a tight-knit, rural community packed with character, still within commuting distance to the city thus, providing many residential opportunities. As a Site Food Safety Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in food safety compliance. You will manage the FSSC/ISO 22000 program compliance including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)/Prerequisite Program (PRP) activities, local HACCP development and management. Your expertise will be crucial as you maintain Quality Assurance (QA) ownership for all trial reviews and product releases, ensuring that every product meets our rigorous safety standards before it reaches our valued customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 7+ years of overall quality assurance experience
  • 4+ years of experience in food safety and/or food manufacturing
  • 1+ years of experience in operational compliance within a laboratory or manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (biology, chemistry, food science, etc.) is preferred
  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification is preferred
  • 1+ years of experience working with ISO 22000 and/or FSSC 22000 standards is preferred
  • Experience leveraging digital tools, data, and technology solutions to improve compliance, quality, operational efficiency, or documentation processes is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre and post-trial HACCP reviews and QA checks for technical and feeding trials to ensure food safety and FSSC/ISO 22000 compliance
  • Oversee pilot plant HACCP, QMS, and PRPs and provide training, conduct annual reviews, and manage deviations
  • Manage incubation testing and product release activities, including documentation, approval, and shipment of samples for external use
  • Assess ingredient risks and controls for new additions to HACCP and manage blocked ingredients
  • Lead and coordinate the process for yearly FSSC/ISO22000 audits at the site
  • Facilitate food safety meetings and manage training and onboarding of team members
  • Maintain quality documentation by managing document creation, revision, version control, issuance, and archival processes
  • Oversee the pest management program, including vendor management and issue tracking
