About The Position

OceanaGold is seeking a Specialist- Processing (Equipment Trainer) to ensure plant personnel are trained and able to carry out their duties and responsibilities safely and effectively within the process plant. This role involves developing and delivering comprehensive training programs, creating technical documentation, and supporting safety systems. The position also includes secondary responsibilities related to the Permit to Work system, cyanide code, and gas detection equipment management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant operations, safety, and training, with excellent communication and technical writing skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience and skills related to plant operations (crushing, grinding, flotation, CIL, elution, and mobile support equipment).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working around mills, conveyors, pumps, and chemicals.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience in LOTOTO (Lockout/Tagout/Tryout) and Permit to Work systems in the mining industry or similar heavy industrial industry.
  • Strong safety background.
  • Good understanding of energy types and isolation procedures.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an equipment trainer, operator trainer, or instructional experience.
  • Proven technical writing experience (samples may be requested).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop training curriculum, presentations, and instructional materials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to simplify complex technical concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a two-week onboarding process for new employees, covering plant layout, circuit overviews, equipment, P&ID references, and operator responsibilities with an emphasis on housekeeping.
  • Deliver hands-on and classroom training on equipment operation, processes, and systems.
  • Develop, update, and deliver comprehensive training curriculum, lesson plans, and competency assessments.
  • Create high-quality technical documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, checklists, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Design and deliver engaging presentations, e-learning modules, and training materials.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through practical assessments, audits, and performance metrics, and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and safety teams to maintain accurate and current training materials.
  • Provide task training for equipment used throughout the process plant, including initial and refresher training.
  • Manage equipment training records, including 5000-23 forms, in paper and INX systems.
  • Support the Permit to Work Officer by ensuring systems and procedures are in place and complied with, and providing input on training.
  • Develop and maintain the Permit to Work System to minimize production impact while ensuring safety and environmental control.
  • Implement and manage the plant cyanide code, including preparing for audits.
  • Manage gas detection equipment (portable, fixed, calibration, PM, records).
  • Update and manage personnel training records in INX.
  • Act as a representative when dealing with contractors, and coordinate and manage consultants and resources.
  • Lead ICAMs (Incident Cause Analysis Method) for the processing department.
  • Help organize and assess the annual process risk assessment for the plant.
  • Attend training/development programs and perform other duties as required.
  • Lead or facilitate training presentations.
  • Identify areas for plant improvement.
  • Support confined space safety, procedures, and compliance processes.
  • Facilitate training sessions for new hires and operational/process teams, delivering safety information, best practices, and procedural updates.
