About The Position

The Power Distribution Specialist will collaborate with our electric utility company to design, analyze, and optimize electrical distribution systems while managing projects to ensure reliable, efficient, and safe power delivery that meets customer and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience. An associate degree with 8+ years of relevant utility distribution experience. Or High school diploma with 12+ years of progressive utility design experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities to address complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and present technical information clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve project goals.
  • A willingness to conduct field visits to support project needs.
  • Commitment to staying updated on industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.
  • Ability to succeed in a team environment and deliver/receive daily constructive feedback.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite specifically Excel.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background, criminal, financial/credit and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review electrical distribution system designs, including overhead and underground lines, substations, and related infrastructure, to meet load demands and reliability standards.
  • Oversee distribution projects from concept to completion, coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective implementation.
  • Perform load flow, fault, voltage drop, flicker and reliability analyses using software tools to optimize system performance and mitigate risks.
  • Conduct structural and loading analyses for utility poles to ensure compliance with standards, assessing pole strength, equipment loading, and environmental factors such as wind and ice.
  • Ensure designs and operations comply with industry standards (e.g., NESC, IEEE) and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical guidance during construction or maintenance activities.
  • Work with customers, municipalities, and other utilities to address service requirements, permitting, and right-of-way issues.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and reports to support project execution and regulatory submissions.
  • Recommend and implement new technologies, such as smart grid solutions, to enhance distribution system efficiency and resilience.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
