About The Position

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to help meet the evolving workforce needs of the utility industry by providing San Antonio college students meaningful, hands-on experience paired with mentorship. The internship is structured to help the intern learn how work gets done in a professional environment, understand the rationale behind planning and governance practices, and build foundational skills that support career readiness. Applicants must reside in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and be currently enrolled or recently graduated to qualify. The Specifications and Measurement intern will assist in the daily operation of the personal protective equipment test lab. They will learn what the lab does for CPS Energy and how vital our job is in keeping our workforce safe. They will learn what each piece of material is used for in the field to help protect the end-user from shock and or electrocution. This will include the receiving of rubber insulated goods (gloves, sleeves, blankets, line hose, and connectors) from our storerooms. This will include pairing goods together, pre-inspecting, counting, loading/unloading the wash, and staging goods to be tested. The intern will also assist in drying and pairing of gloves and sleeves, stamping expiration dates on goods as needed, help pack goods. There will also be some housekeeping such as sweeping, wiping down equipment, cleaning signage, and organizing. The intern will also help in verifying counts, basic office work like filing, and laminating signage.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Testing, analyzing, troubleshooting, and accepting Personal Protective Equipment consisting of Class 0 Rubber insulating gloves, Class 3 Rubber insulating gloves, Class 3 rubber insulated blankets, insulating line hoses, line connectors, Class 3 rubber insulating sleeves, insulating PVC shielding, hot-sticks, portable grounding jumpers, and hard hats.
  • Pre-Inspection and count of all PPE coming into the test lab both new and in-service.
  • Washing, sorting, and staging products to be tested using flow tags through each step of the processes.
  • Set-up of test equipment and performing electrical tests on PPE. Drying and pairing gloves and sleeves after electrical testing.
  • Inventory control of 95% or better. Keeping accurate counts on product and initialing all work.
  • Finalizing, dating, packaging, and preparing for shipping of PPE to the storerooms on a rotational basis, all PPE is exchanged on a 90-day basis for all users except for Line Hoses, Connectors, and Blankets which is exchanged annually. Re-testing on portable ground jumpers and hot sticks performed annually.
  • Communicating and interacting with various CPS areas for the coordination of PPE exchanges.
  • Filing of paperwork transfers and receipt of PPE.
  • Basic maintenance on machines to include cleaning all test tanks and cleaning electrode plates, canisters, and poles. Changing out filters. Cleaning all equipment surfaces.
