About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer to support its Strategic Missions Division in Palm Bay, Florida. The role supports the development, implementation, and improvement of manufacturing methods for complex electronic, optical, and electro-mechanical assemblies, with a focus on safety, quality, delivery, and throughput. The selected candidate will support production of circuit card assemblies (CCAs), sub-assemblies, cable and harness assemblies, chassis assemblies, and higher-level system integrations. The position works closely with Operations, Quality, Test, Reliability, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and Program teams to address manufacturing issues, improve process efficiency, and support production execution against customer requirements. It calls for technical aptitude, the ability to manage multiple assignments in a production environment, and experience with electronics manufacturing processes, tooling, process documentation, and continuous improvement. Familiarity with printed circuit board design, fabrication, and assembly processes is beneficial. The schedule is 9/80: employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, and have every other Friday off. The role requires an active TS/SCI clearance and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (TS/SCI with Poly), as stated in the posting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (TS/SCI with Poly).
  • Experience with electronics manufacturing processes, tooling, process documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a production environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with printed circuit board design, fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Experience with CCA manufacturing processes, cable assemblies, fiber optics, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Working knowledge and general understanding of IPC-6012, IPC-6013, IPC-A-600, and IPC-6018.
  • Background in manufacturing electronics for military and government systems.
  • Experience with lean principles and methods, including mistake-proofing, 3P, 5S+1, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, Cause & Effect, Gemba, and Pull-Flow.
  • Familiarity with Control or a similar MRP-based system and an Aegis-based Manufacturing Execution System.
  • Experience with an Aegis-based Manufacturing Execution System, such as Fusion V7 or FactoryLogix.
  • Experience developing automated chemical dispensing processes.
  • Experience developing automated or semi-automated torque-tool processes.
  • Knowledge of PTC CREO, technical writing, MS Project, and/or MS SharePoint.
  • TS or higher U.S. Government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing engineering activities for production hardware to ensure safe, efficient, repeatable processes that meet quality and delivery requirements.
  • Develop, implement, improve, and sustain manufacturing processes for complex avionics hardware, including CCAs, microelectronic assemblies, cable and harness assemblies, chassis, and higher-level assemblies.
  • Generate, update, and maintain Assembly Method Sheets (AMS), work instructions, process flows, tooling requirements, and related manufacturing documentation.
  • Evaluate manufacturing constraints and implement improvements to producibility, yield, cycle time, and throughput.
  • Design and develop manufacturing tools, fixtures, and process aids, emphasizing standardization, mistake-proofing, and operator effectiveness.
  • Create manufacturing fixturing using in-house additive manufacturing resources and other appropriate tooling methods.
  • Support automation and semi-automation initiatives for manual processes such as torque application and chemical dispensing.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to manufacturing technicians and operators to ensure correct process execution.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers about manufacturing issues, priorities, and status.
  • Support root-cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions related to nonconformances, recurring defects, process escapes, and yield issues.
  • Support MRB activities, including review of discrepant hardware, defect-trend analysis, and corrective-action implementation.
  • Review drawing revisions and parts-list updates for manufacturing impact and support incorporation of engineering changes into production.
  • Analyze workflow, labor content, and material flow to improve manufacturing and test throughput.
  • Support technical and operational lean and continuous-improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Use data and process metrics to identify trends and support manufacturing performance improvements.
  • Prioritize and execute work in an environment with multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities.
